“The reason… He is too polite to say it”: Fans are Not Happy With Chris Pine’s Response to Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman 3 Getting Axed

Chris Pine’s role in the DC Universe was certainly iconic. Being one of the most beloved actors in the industry, his portrayal of Steve Trevor in the Wonder Woman franchise came with nothing short of appreciation. Especially following the course of the first movie, his ultimate sacrifice touched the hearts of many, making it cruel to learn that his appearance in the sequel was next to nothing.

Although the first film had a lot going on for it, including the growing reputation of Patty Jenkins because of its success, a lot relied on the second film. Gal Gadot’s portrayal as the titular character was taken well, as was every other aspect of the franchise; up until the sequel. However, Pine has something different to say about the same.

Chris Pine Was Surpised About The Fate of Wonder Woman

Chris Pine recently gave an interview with Business Insider where he talked about the Wonder Woman films. While the actor did not appear much in the second movie, he was a very important part of the first. He specifically talked about the film series getting canceled before it could get its third movie.

The actor revealed that he was quite surprised by this news, considering how the movies collectively earned an impressive amount. While the second film was heavily criticized by audiences, its release right in the middle of the pandemic certainly hurt its performance and did not allow it to explore its full box office potential.

“I’m stunned that they said no to a billion-dollar franchise and decided to pivot elsewhere,” Pine said. “I don’t know what the reasoning was behind that; it’s above my pay grade, but Wonder Woman is an incredible character; Patty is such a thoughtful director.”

Pine spoke on exactly this, stating that he did not expect the studio to do such a thing and wondered why a decision as drastic as cancellation was taken. He then talked about the series’ potential, mentioning the impact that Wonder Woman’s character has had and how iconic she is. He also commented on director, Patty Jenkins’ talent, talking about her work in the first two films.

Fans Were Not Convinced

While it is safe to assume that Chris Pine’s words meant no harm and did not hold any hidden meaning, many fans cannot help but wonder why he is not saying things as they were. One fan pointed out how there was absolutely no denying that the second film was not very good. Fans from all corners of the fandom, as well as critics, were disappointed at Wonder Woman 1984.

The drop off from Wonder Woman to Wonder Woman 1984 was unparalleled and really a shame because Gal Gadot is fantastic.

When the second film in said Billionaire dollar franchise in one of the worst comic book movies ever made, that’ll definitely cause a studio to pivot in a different direction.

They added that Pine was simply being polite and trying not to badmouth a movie he had been a part of. Others supported his sentiment, saying that just because one movie did not do as well as the first, it did not mean the studio had to cancel the series altogether.

It is safe to say that fans are still very split on where they stand with the Wonder Woman film series.
