Salma Hayek graced fans of Black Mirror, the show capturing the manipulative effects of cutting-edge technology in some individuals’ personal lives, by appearing as an AI version of herself.
In the first episode of Black Mirror Season 6, titled Joan Is Awful, Annie Murphy’s character Joan Tait plays a tech executive who inadvertently gives away her life rights via the terms and conditions for an app, leading to the app reconstructing Joan’s life via AI and launching a TV drama adaptation of her life, in which Joan is portrayed by Hayek.

Why Salma Hayek’s Black Mirror Co-star Broke Down in the Pacific Ocean

Eerily, Murphy dealt with financial hurdles in her personal life just before landing the role of the jet-setter former socialite on the sitcom. Speaking about her struggles on The Kelly Clarkson Show, the 36-year-old revealed she had just three dollars in her bank account and her house had burnt down at the time.
“Just before Schitt’s Creek things were quite bleak. My house had just burnt down, and I had like $3 in my bank account. I hadn’t worked in close to two years.”
She found herself crying in the Pacific Ocean and contemplated the idea of quitting acting. Two days later, she got the audition for the Eugene Levy-led show. Her career, and in all likelihood her bank account, haven’t looked back since that point, with Schitt’s Creek receiving plenty of love and plaudits from the fans and critics alike.

The Russian Doll actress admitted it was truly incredible to work in the same episode as the Grown Ups star. She said (via Collider):
“I had some preconceived notions of who Salma Hayek was going into it, and she just exceeded every expectation that I had. She is so funny and so willing to make fun of herself and be ridiculous and goofy and go for it.”
Murphy also added that she found a real bud in the iconic actress and they had a lot of fun working together.
