Megan Fox has taken on plenty of iconic roles over the years, but one film she came close to starring in has returned to streaming charts over 20 years later. Fox was one of the many names considered for the role of Karen in Mean Girls, the 2004 cult classic led by Lindsay Lohan and Rachel McAdams. The part of Karen ultimately went to Amanda Seyfried, who almost played McAdams’ iconic Regina George. Mean Girls was released in 2004, and the film has since returned to streaming charts on Paramount+, sitting at #4 at the time of writing. Mean Girls earned a “certified fresh” 84% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes and a 66% on the audience-driven Popcornmeter. It also grossed $130 million at the box office against a modest budget of only $17 million.
There were plenty of casting almosts revealed in an article last year from Entertainment Weekly, including Leighton Meester, Haylie Duff, Kate Mara, and Blake Lively all auditioning for the role of Karen. Lacey Chabert also ended up ultimately starring as Gretchen Wieners, but the casting team also looked at Ashley Tisdale, Vanessa Hudgens, and Mary Elizabeth Winstead for the role. Lizzy Caplan’s Janis also almost went to America Ferrara and Kat Dennings. Tina Fey, who stars in the film as Ms. Norbury, wrote the script for Mean Girls, and Mark Waters directed the film. Fey just recently wrote the teleplay for The Four Seasons, the Netflix show that was renewed for Season 2. Waters is best known for his work on Bad Santa 2, the Christmas sequel led by Landman’s own Billy Bob Thornton.
