Lynda Carter is speaking out on what Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman 3 may look like — if it ever gets produced.

While speaking with Yahoo! Entertainment about the potential for a third film in the series from filmmaker Patty Jenkins and star Gadot, 38, Carter — known best as playing the character in the 1970s television series of the same name — shared, "I don’t think they want to do it unless there’s enough pressure from fans."

“I just don’t think they have the mind to do it," she said, referring to DC Studios, which has received an overhaul in the last year from its co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran. The studio plans to reboot its DC universe for the big screen with the upcoming Superman: Legacy movie, set for release in 2025.

"I don’t understand that, because it seems to me that Wonder Woman is different from other characters," Carter told the outlet of DC's apparent decision to move on from Gadot's iteration of the character. "She’s not just a superhero. Her whole thing is about peaceful solutions. She’s not aggressive to be aggressive. It’s a different story. It’s about inner strength, outer strength. I don’t know why they tabled it, because it’s a great franchise.”

In the interview, Carter, 72, teased that the story outline for a third Wonder Woman film with Jenkins behind the camera and Gadot reprising the lead role “was really interesting, wonderful and about something important."

Carter herself appeared in 2020's Wonder Woman 1984 in a mid-credits sequence as a character named Asteria, teasing a potential onscreen team-up between her and Gadot in the future. While Gadot said as recently as August 2023 that she, Gunn and Safran were still discussing more Wonder Woman films, filmmaker Jenkins shared recently that she is no longer working on Wonder Woman 3, according to Entertainment Weekly.

Gadot first played Diana Prince a.k.a. Wonder Woman in 2016's Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice. She reprised the role for 2017's Wonder Woman and Justice League movies, as well as 2021's Zack Snyder's Justice League and the 2020 solo sequel.

While speaking with Yahoo! Entertainment, Carter asserted that Gadot and Jenkins' interpretation of the Wonder Woman character "was intentional" in the same way that she approached playing the character for television in the '70s.

"To be good, kind, strong and do everything for the right reasons," she said. "Even when she was angry, she was angry at the right people.”
