Lady Gaga teases a cut sex scene from House of Gucci that wasn’t with co-star Adam Driver, but instead with Salma Hayek. House of Gucci marks the second film from legendary director Ridley Scott released in 2021 following The Last Duel, which also starred Driver. While The Last Duel bombed at the box office, House of Gucci did quite well when it opened on Thanksgiving weekend during a time when adult-skewing dramas have struggled to bring out older movie audiences.
House of Gucci has received multiple nominations, including three nominations at the SAG Awards, tapping Lady Gaga for Best Female Actor in a Leading Role, as well as Best Cast in a Motion Picture. The nomination is a big one for Hayek, who joined the House of Gucci ensemble in April 2021, after filming on the movie had already begun. Hayek plays Giuseppina "Pina" Auriemma, a TV psychic who befriends Gaga’s Patrizia Reggiani and schemes with her to kill her husband, Maurizio Gucci (Driver). Hayek also has an interesting real-life connection to the film, as her husband, François-Henri Pinault, is CEO of Kering: the parent company of Gucci.

During a recent awards screening of House of Gucci (via Uproxx), when asked about her time working on the film, Hayek revealed she and Gaga had a great relationship and was sorry the audience didn't get to see everything that was left on the cutting room floor. Gaga revealed House of Gucci originally included a "sexual relationship" between her and Hayek’s character, and that the scenes were indeed filmed. Hayek backed up Gaga's comments by letting the audience know that the actress was not kidding. Read Gaga's quote below.
"There is a whole side of this film that you did not see, where Pina and I developed a sexual relationship. Okay, yeah, director's cut – who knows. But this is a testament to [Ridley Scott] as a director, because he allowed us to go there. I remember being on set with Salma and going – so, after Maurizio dies, maybe… it gets hot?"
It is currently unknown why the scene was cut, but the film's runtime could have been the biggest factor. House of Gucci has a runtime of 2 hours and 38 minutes, so it appears to be lost in order to trim the film down slightly. However, Scott is known for releasing directors cuts of his movies like Alien, Blade Runner, and Kingdom of Heaven, and Gaga herself joked that a House of Gucci directors cut may include the Patrizia/Pina scenes. So, there is a good chance directors cut for House of Gucci not only exists, but may potentially be released on home video, since the film seems to have done well enough at the box office to justify an extended cut for those who want to see it.
While the cut House of Gucci scene meant Hayek's screen time was reduced, the performer had a strong year in 2021 with roles in The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard and Marvel Studio’s Eternals. Hayek has spoken highly of her co-star Lady Gaga, even though she admits to being "mortified" by the film's mud bath scene. It appears that filming House of Gucci was a very open collaboration between the actors and Ridley Scott who, while cutting the scene in the end, still worked with their ideas and appeared to welcome the cast's creative suggestions.
