Jennifer Lopez remains ‘calm’ as Ben Affleck puts on a ‘dramatic display of frustration’

Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck seemed to be caught in a tense exchange as they shopped for some expensive jewellery.

The couple enjoyed some retail therapy during their holiday in St Bart's and were snapped looking in the high end boutiques in the capital of Gustavia. Jennifer tried on a necklace and a pair of earrings as Ben took pictures on his phone.

Ben and Jennifer were then seen caught deep in conversation, with the Gone Girl star putting his hands on his head. Body language expert Judi James believes Ben seemed to be expressing "confusion, frustration or anxiety."

Speaking exclusively to The Mirror, she said: "Ben Affleck seems to have turned a simple shopping trip into a dramatic one-act play with his body language here. His emotional 'state' appears to veer from looking like the kind of engaged and supportive partner that any girl would love to share a shopping outing with as he studies the necklace she has put on and even photographs it to get a better view of how it looks, to using the kind of dramatic raised hand gestures and head-touching rituals with eyes closed that would normally be associated with confusion, frustration or anxiety."

While Ben seemed to grow frustrated, Jennifer kept her cool. Judi told us: "Jennifer's own body language signals appear unchanging throughout these photos and her mood appears to be emphatically one of calm.

"She even seems to look away and sit down when Ben is at his most active in terms of gesticulation, hinting that she is the calming presence in the relationship while he is more demonstrative and active in his communication signals." Judi also explained how Ben managed to look so serious.

She said: "Raised hands, raised brows, eye contact and then using the hand as a 'cap' on the head can all give the impression of a row, which an actor like Ben would likely know. He's not using any balancing gestures like a smile or a laugh here, so his mood does look serious.

"Yet he is also seen looking upbeat and engaged during the same outing. When a high-profile couple like this appears in public it’s relatively simple to avoid looking like you’re in some kind of altercation but Ben’s more dramatic hand gestures and facial expressions do tend to be in contrast to Jen’s more experienced-looking signals of studied calm."

The tension luckily didn't seem to last long for J-Lo and Ben as they were quickly seen posing for selfies together and kissing. Jennifer looked incredible wearing a white crop top teamed with a pale pink and white striped maxi skirt. Ben opted for a green jumper layered over a white T-shirt.
