Jennifer Lawrence has endorsed Kamala Harris for president, citing the vice president’s position on reproductive rights.
“I’m voting for Kamala Harris because I think she’s an amazing candidate and I know that she will do whatever she can to protect reproductive rights,” Lawrence told People magazine. “That’s the most important thing, is to not let somebody into the White House who is going to ban abortion.”
Lawrence is executive producer of the documentary Zurawski v Texas, about the challenge to that state’s abortion ban. Hillary and Chelsea Clinton are also executive producers.
Lawrence is the latest in a line of celebrity endorsements for Harris, a list that includes Taylor Swift and Oprah Winfrey. The cast of Scandal, among other figures, took part in a recent Harris campaign bus tour focused on abortion rights.
Lawrence told People that the film will “enlighten people’s idea of what abortion is and why certain people need abortions — and why it’s so important to keep lawmakers out of families and out of people’s doctors’ offices… These laws are made by random white men and they’re not made by healthcare providers.”
