Jennifer Aniston opens up about giving herself strict ‘boundaries’ to navigate a ‘real hard relationship’

Jennifer Aniston has shared advice on what she does to try and navigate a 'real hard relationship' which many of us probably struggle with too.

It's an issue many of us probably relate too, especially in the week following a period of heavy celebrating over Christmas and the New Year's and as we head into 2025, it's a topic it wouldn't be unwise to make a few resolutions for – sleep.

It constantly feels like many of us are having to battle between work, fun and sleep – choosing two out of three to fulfil, the latter often falling by the wayside – and it's something Friends star Jennifer Aniston has opened up about having a 'real hard relationship' with too, particularly in the 'last 10, 15 years'.

What is 'healthy' sleep?

Healthline explains: "Most adults should aim to get seven or more hours of uninterrupted sleep each night."

Yup. Seven. And uninterrupted too. Hats off to you if you're managing that with all the stress of day-to-day life and feeling like you have 101 things to do and 24 hours is never enough time to do them, ending up lying in bed at the end of the day with your brain still whirring.

In an interview with Allure, Aniston revealed she similarly finds it 'hard to shut the brain down' and fall asleep.

Aniston's difficulties with sleep

She explained: "Sleep and I have a real hard relationship. I really want to love it and I am sure it wants to love me, but we have had a hard time, especially the last 10, 15 years. It’s just hard […] to tell the committee to stop talking."

The actor reflects how 'our bodies, our brains are not designed to take in this much information.'

"They’re just not. We used to have a television and a radio and that was it. We would turn on the news at six, and that was all you got plus a newspaper in the morning," she continued. "You could go live a glorious life where your cortisol levels weren't through the roof, where your anxiety wouldn’t be out of control. It's just too much. This is not normal."

In a bid to try and develop a better relationship with sleep, Aniston has since given herself 'boundaries with information'.

Aniston's solutions

Aniston has forced herself to 'shut the news off' in her journey to developing a healthier relationship with sleep.

She also meditates in the morning, stretches before bed and has been 'trying had' to go to bed at 10pm during the week.

And this means turning 'everything off' and just lying there waiting for the world to 'come crashing in'.

However, it's all about balance and Aniston resolved: "I've been trying to meet that challenge for myself. Some days you're great and on point, and some days you're just not.

"I’m a big believer in trying not to be hard on yourself because the world is so mean right now and so aggressive and negative. So why would we do it to ourselves?"
