The Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has revealed that in 2018, the losses caused to the USA’s economy due to cigarette smoking were more than $600 billion. Over 480,000 Americans reportedly die due to cigarette smoking every year. Here are five celebrities who opened up about their smoking habits and how they quit them.
1. Jennifer Aniston

Friends star Jennifer Aniston reportedly spent her twenties smoking cigarettes. The actress revealed in an interview with GQ that she had quit the habit, which resulted in her gaining a few pounds and raising speculation from the paparazzi that she was pregnant. She confirmed that she was not.
According to the intro she wrote for her yoga trainer’s book, Aniston used yoga to quit her cigarette addiction and reportedly exercised and ate healthy regularly. Yoga reportedly also helped her quit her caffeine addiction (via Glamour).
2. Gwyneth Paltrow

Se7en star Gwyneth Paltrow reportedly quit smoking after years of indulging in the habit. The Oscar-winning actress had a wake-up call when her father, Bruce Paltrow, passed away due to cancer.
According to She Knows, the Goop founder has a healthier lifestyle now but still smokes occasionally. She said to Harper’s Bazar that her guilty pleasure was one American Spirit that she smoked once a week.
3. Barack Obama

After years of smoking cigarettes, the one thing that reportedly helped former President Barack Obama quit the habit was fear of his wife Michelle Obama. The former President joked that the First Lady’s strictness dissuaded him from taking up the habit again and that he had quit six years ago at the time (via She Knows). He also reportedly signed a stringent anti-smoking bill and criticized companies for marketing the product to the youth.
4. Paul Rudd

While fans may never know the secret to Paul Rudd’s forever-young look, the actor revealed one thing that helped him get through smoking. Rudd reportedly mentioned that hypnotherapy helped him get past the habit and recommended therapist Kerry Gaynor. The process was reportedly suggested to Rudd by Rashida Jones, who was also helped by Gaynor (via Glamour).
5. Adele

Adele has been the angelic voice to millions of heartbreaks around the world but the Skyfall singer reportedly could not stand to imagine her son being devastated by her smoking habits. The multiple Grammy winner mentioned that she loved smoking but gave it up for her son (via People). She was reportedly smoking 25 cigarettes a day.
