James Gunn Reveals When The Next DC Universe Movies & Series Will Get Announced

James Gunn has shared an exciting tease about the DC Universe's slate of projects. Recently, Gunn confirmed the first five movies and TV shows to be released in the DCU. Those are Creature Commandos, Superman, Peacemaker season 2, Lanterns, and Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Other movies and shows, like Batman's The Brave and the Bold or the Waller series, are also set to come, though they still have no release date or started production. Now, Gunn has teased the unannounced projects of the DCU's Chapter One.

On Threads, a fan asked the DC Studios co-CEO whether the announcement of new greenlit DCU projects would come "within the next 2 months or so."James Gunn confirmed that timeline, saying, "Yes."

When he confirmed the first five movies and TV shows of the DCU, Gunn also said that HBO's Lanterns series would be released around Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow in 2026 and teased mystery projects, commenting on how there were other movies and TV shows in the works that people did not know about. It now seems like some of the DCU's future projects will be revealed soon.

James Gunn's DCU begins with the animated Creature Commandos on December 5. After that, DC Studios already has multiple releases planned for 2025 and 2026. Gunn previously said that two movies and two series were DC's goal for each year. However, since there have already been many announced DCU projects and the director is now teasing a new wave of announcements soon, it seems like the DCU might have to update its output goal. After all, major characters are still in limbo, with no projects announced, and they cannot go many years without debuting.

Justice League stars like Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and The Flash still have no set project to debut. The Justice League itself has yet to have a movie confirmed, which could be part of the announcements teased by Gunn. Based on the timeline for the DCU's next movie and TV show announcements, it seems like the next couple of months are going to be full of reveals for the studio. The Superman movie trailer will reportedly debut in mid-December. After the first footage from the movie and Creature Commandos kickstart the DCU, Gunn could announce major projects to ride that high.

I'm excited about how the end of the year and the start of 2025 are shaping up to be big for the DCU. Gunn announced a nice variety of projects when the DCU's slate was first revealed, giving each kind of fan a project to look forward to. However, those only made up less than half of the DCU Chapter One's slate, as revealed by Gunn. I'm looking forward to discovering what major titles and characters have been kept hidden until this time. Hopefully, at least the DCU's first Justice League movie gets announced in the next couple of months.

The DC Universe is one of the biggest comic book franchises and often competes with Marvel. DC Comics started as National Allied Publications, founded by Malcolm Wheeler-Nicholson in 1935. Since then, the franchise has exploded with thousands of comic books, movies, TV shows, and video games. 2013 marked the beginning of the most recent iteration of the superheroes, with Zack Snyder introducing Henry Cavill as Superman. After several movies with mixed reviews, DC underwent a soft reboot under the helm of James Gunn and Peter Safran.
