“The way I feel about it now is how I felt about it then, which was I found it somewhat hilarious, the amount of gravity that was given to it, because it was not surprising,” the actor told Vanity Fair in an October 2022 interview about how Kaley Cuoco and Johnny Galecki fell in love.
“I understand things can get complicated when business relationships get personal, but it was like, ‘Yeah, [I knew that] you guys were flirting,” continued Helberg. Soon after that initial reaction, though, he immediately started worrying about how it would affect things on set. “[I thought,] ‘Wait a minute; two actors in a cast? Dating?! Like, hold the front door! I’m outta here!” he added.
Kaley Cuoco And Johnny Galecki’s Other Colleagues Also Had Their Own Opinions About Their Relationship
One thing Simon Helberg was happy about in regards to Kaley Cuoco and Johnny Galecki’s relationship is that when they ended things, the impact on the work they were all doing on The Big Bang Theory was minimal. “It was not a big surprise, [and] I think it’s funny,” he said.
“[But] I am happy that it all worked out in the sense that it didn’t throw a huge wrench into the dynamic on set after they broke up, because things can get complicated,” Helberg explained. He was not the only one with a defined opinion about the lovebirds, though.
Jim Parsons echoed similar sentiments, as he revealed in the same VF interview that his first concern after learning of the affair was about the series. “The biggest thing I remember was Johnny saying it won’t get in the way of work, which was nice to say. And honestly, it really didn’t,” he recalled.

Big Bang co-creator Bill Prady as said, “They were talking about having gone to a theater to see a documentary about water… At that point I was like, ‘There’s no way that any woman on the planet goes to see a documentary about water unless she’s passionate about water, or she’s sleeping with the guy.’”

During the 12 seasons that The Big Bang Theory remained on air, the core cast members shared very tight-knit bonds with one another, many of which continued long after. It would be a fair conclusion to make that Kaley Cuoco and Johnny Galecki being romantically involved was one of, if not the deepest of those bonds.
The actress, however, truly connected well with the other stars of the show too, including Simon Helberg. Cuoco spoke about what made the Howard actor so special on the set of Big Bang when she was interviewed by TVLine about the show’s biggest moments ever.
“Simon Helberg makes me laugh, really, really hard,” she said. “Everyone at work is so funny and I learn from them every single day, but Simon is, I think, one of the funniest people I have ever met.”
The pair did have one disagreement towards the end of their time together on TBBT: Helberg was selfishly happy that the show was concluding, but Cuoco and some of their other colleagues were not as glad.
