Angelina Jolie is bringing her signature elegance to the red carpet yet again, but with a stylish twist!
The 49-year-old star looked regal as always in a long nude-colored silk gown and lightweight shawl-style black jacket at the Saturday, Oct. 26, premiere of her film Maria, which took place during the AFI Film Festival in Los Angeles.
But it was her curly locks that was a surprise departure from her usual red carpet style. While the actress appeared in CR Fashion Book with curls in September, her look when hitting the carpet is typically wearing her hair straight or in a chic updo. However, on Oct. 26 she opted for a hairstyle of voluminous beachy curls, styled with a side parting.
Jolie complemented her new red carpet look with drop earrings, bold red lipstick and subtle eye makeup, with just a dash of eyeshadow and black eyeliner. She matched her manicure to her lips, with bright red nails for the striking red carpet look.
Angelina Jolie Finds Her Voice Again as Opera Singer Maria Callas in Emotional New Maria Trailer
In the Pablo Larraín-directed biopic, Jolie plays late opera singer Maria Callas.
According to a synopsis, the film "follows the American-Greek soprano as she retreats to Paris after a glamorous and tumultuous life in the public eye," following the vocalist "in her final days as the diva reckons with her identity and life."
Callas, made famous for her three-octave soprano vocal range, died in Paris in 1977 of a heart attack at age 53. Jolie underwent months of training to portray the renowned vocalist.
On the red carpet on Oct. 26, Jolie spoke to PEOPLE about how she connected with the character and where she sees an intersection between herself and Callas.
"I know there are certain things that people would assume from the distance that we have in common, but I think what we have in common maybe is that we share a certain loneliness in kind of sometimes doing our work where we're the one, I don't know, up at night, alone, trying to figure something out," she told PEOPLE, adding, "I don't want to speak too much about it because it's too personal, but there's definitely a loneliness and a work ethic."
"I may be many things, but I'm a very hard worker, right? I'm an imperfect person, but I work very hard and she does. And so I think we see ourselves, I don't know if she or I ever would see ourselves as anything but a performer and a worker who has a job to do, and probably very hard on ourselves," Jolie continued.
In September, the film received a standing ovation at the New York Film Festival. Ahead of the screening, Jolie walked the red carpet with three of her children — Pax, 20, Zahara, 19, and Maddox, 23 — while wearing a white vintage Madame Grès gown sourced from Mon Vintage in Paris.
The Oscar winner also recently appeared at the Toronto Film Festival for the premiere of her film Without Blood.
Jolie, who directed the war drama, stunned in a silk, black Dolce & Gabbana gown with ruching details along the bottom. For added glamour, she wore a pair of elbow-length, opera-style silk gloves.
Her long blonde hair was parted down the middle and she went sans jewels.
Jolie was also joined by her 20-year-old son Pax, who worked on the film in the assistant director department. He coordinated with his mom's look by wearing a black suit and tie paired with dark shades on the red carpet. After the screening, he joined the audience in giving Jolie and the film's cast a standing ovation.
