Angelina Jolie, fresh off the heels of the settlement of her eight-year divorce saga from Brad Pitt, is wasting no time getting back into the public eye this awards season as she promotes her performance in the Maria Callas biopic, Maria.
On Jan. 3, the Oscar winner took to the red carpet at the Palm Springs International Film Awards with not one, but two very important people in her life.
The Maleficent star, who wore a black floor-length gown with a halter neck, was accompanied by her daughter, Zahara Jolie, who sported a sleeveless white gown with subtle cutouts.
The two posed for photos on the red carpet alongside actress Jacqueline Bisset. The Bullitt star acted alongside Jolie’s father, Jon Voight, in the 1971 thriller The End of the The Game. She became close friends with Jolie’s late mother, Marcheline Bertrand, and was asked to be Jolie’s godmother when Bertrand was pregnant with her.
Jolie was celebrated at the awards ceremony, receiving the Desert Palm Achievement Award for her performance in Maria.
Other stars in attendance included Nicole Kidman, Demi Moore, Selena Gomez, and Ariana Grande, who received the Rising Star award.
When she received the prize, Grande joked that she has been “performing since I was a child, so I never thought at the age of 31 I would be hearing the words 'rising star' again, so I wanted to start by thanking my good friends Botox and Juvederm.”
Some fans were puzzled by Grande’s outfit at the gala, noting that they thought the custom-made Louis Vuitton balloon gown looked “like a deflated football” or “a deflated exercise ball.”
